Dear Aurelians:
A good Juneteenth to everyone – a significant date in American history, deserving of recognition. Even though the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863, it couldn’t be enforced in places still controlled by the Confederacy. That meant in Texas—the furthest west of the Confederate states—enslaved people didn’t actually gain their freedom until much later. It finally happened on June 19, 1865, when Union troops showed up in Galveston Bay and announced that over 250,000 Black people in Texas were free, at which point the newly freed people started calling this day “Juneteenth.”
Our annual dues campaign is ending this month on a very high note! The Matching Grant Challenge very successful and then some. Between dues paid to the Loomis Fund and to the Aurelian Fund at Yale, over $27k was raised this fiscal ending June 30. Of equal importance, really, is that over 100 alumni contributed to this effort.
In a year where we remodeled our headquarters and rebuilt the website, we were still able to award the Stan Flink Nuland Stipend to a deserving Aurelian, Ilora Roy ‘26. Your continued participation enables Aurelian to maintain its high profile at Yale and in New Haven.
Participation from more of us at any level makes all goals more achievable. Many thanks to all Members In Good Standing listed below. The 2026 Loomis Campaign will officially kick off in September.
This month, Board Member Angel Mora ‘21 and I had the opportunity to participate in the on- boarding meeting between 2025 Leaders and the entering 2026 Delegation – a really well organized zoom call led by Abigail Yadegar ‘25 and Matthew Jennings ‘25. To view the slide deck and get a more granular look at delegation activities please click below. When the next newsletter comes out in September, we will include photos and mini-bios of our 2026 class.
Apologies to Aurelians who tried to visit the Grad Club during their Reunions this month; we got our wires crossed on opening times. We’ll get this sorted for The Game reception November 22.
Many thanks for your continued support!
